Interview with Judy Lannon

Welcome back, y’all! Sorry for the hiatus, but we are back this fall with a bang and sitting down with the lovely and oh, so talented Judy Lannon.
You have a couple of award-winning Women’s Fiction novels in your bag of tricks. How did the early success of NINE DAYS affect the success of THE MAKING OF GENEVIEVE? Or do you believe it did?
I’m not sure it did affect Genevieve. I was no more sure of how that book would be received than I was of Nine Days. It’s like having 2 kids – 1st one is popular, everybody loves it. Would the 2nd one do as well?
You’ve spoken openly about the different publishing routes you chose with your two novels. What prompted you to decide to self-publish THE MAKING OF GENEVIEVE? Do you believe it was the right choice for you, and which way path do you think you’ll choose for novel number three?
I met a wonderful author at the Nantucket Book Club in the summer of 2023. She has self-published most of her books and encouraged me to try it. Either way, publisher of no publisher, an author has to promote their books. I decided to give it a try, with the help of some experts: an editor, cover designer, interior designer, and help uploading it to all the right platforms. I will definitely self publish again.
I must ask about your email address. Who is “Olive?”
Olive was our wonderful standard poodle who passed away from cancer when she was only 7 years old. We had the same birthdate, 3/22. She bit my nails when one of us was upset, and she stressed ate when I vacuumed! She also played basketball with my husband.
If you didn’t write for a living, what would you do?
Good question, I definitely don’t write for a living. If I did, I would starve! I left my corporate life during Covid, not because of writing, it was time for me to walk away. I’m glad I did, because marketing and promoting could be a full-time job.
Give us a sneak peak into THE MAKING OF GENEVIEVE.
I think this review sums up Genevieve. It’s much longer, but this just feels right. “For all women who dare to “dream outside the box” and hold fast to those dreams in spite of being unceremoniously dragged back to reality time and time again, The Making of Genevieve is their story. Genevieve Lemaire Austin’s idyllic destiny was born from the pages of fashion magazines, the Newport elite, and endless days gazing on the horizon of the Atlantic. Without one doubt, Genevieve vowed the world would be her oyster.”
How can fans of Judy Lannon make sure we stay up to date with new announcements and releases? Here are a few links, I don’t do a newsletter. It’s on my list:)
A Texas-sized THANK YOU to Judy for spending time with us today and for sharing her stories and talent. Go check out her books…you will NOT regret it! See you soon.
